What Brought Me Here?
Teaching kids has been a passion of mine since I was one myself. The more experience I had as a classroom teacher, and within my family with nieces and nephew, the greater I understood- Kids and adults aren't that different. The majority of our problems, big and small, tug on one thing- our emotions. The difference being, children's brains are still developing the areas that dictate rational choices. Point blank- children need help to learn how to control their emotions. It doesn't come naturally.
I watched students of mine struggle with emotions- anger, anxiety, sadness, decision making, and so on, year after year, and together, we had conversations, learned helpful strategies, and worked together to come up with solutions for those emotions and problems.
Then, one day, as I was praying to God about a certain student filled with so much anger, a story unfolded right before my eyes and I had to put pen to paper.
A year and a half later, I am so excited to announce this story, words, pictures and all, is ready to be in your hands. My hope is that this story, and the ones to follow, can help kids connect, understand, and grow confident with their emotions and various tools through very relatable stories of every day problems.
